20-Year-Old Lorain Woman Drowns at Lakeview Beach

Lorain, Ohio — A 20-year-old Lorain woman has died in a suspected drowning at Lakeview Beach after jumping off a break wall and failing to resurface, according to a statement from the Lorain Police Department.

Police were called to Lakeview Beach, North, around 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, after bystanders reported a swimmer in distress. Witnesses told officers that Ayesha Kadi had been jumping from the break wall into Lake Erie when she disappeared beneath the surface and did not return.

Emergency crews from several agencies responded, including the Lorain Police Department’s Patrol Division and Underwater Recovery Team, the Lorain Fire Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Working together, responders located and recovered Kadi’s body approximately 12 to 15 feet beneath the water, just west of the center break wall at the beach.

Kadi was pronounced dead at the scene by Lifecare personnel. The Lorain County Coroner’s Office was notified and has since taken over the investigation. At this time, authorities believe the incident was an accidental drowning.
