Police say woman removed suspected drugs from body during arrest

Juliet M. Britt, 42, of Amherst, was arrested by Elyria police on June 28, 2025, and is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after officers say she removed suspected drugs from her vaginal canal while being transported to jail.

According to a patrol narrative, officers encountered Britt during the early morning hours of June 28 in relation to a separate incident. Britt told officers that her wrist had been broken earlier that night. Visible bruising and swelling were noted. Because of the reported injury, she was handcuffed in the front rather than behind her back.

During transport to the Lorain County Jail, Officer Michael House reported that Britt was shifting her body around in the back seat of the patrol vehicle. After completing the transport, House reviewed the rear seat camera footage. According to the report, Britt was seen retrieving a plastic baggie from her vaginal canal, tearing it open, and spreading a brown substance throughout the seat. She was also seen removing a white straw containing a similar substance and dropping both items on the floor of the cruiser.

The baggie and straw were collected and placed into evidence. The report describes the substance as brown but does not confirm the results of any chemical analysis.

Britt was booked into the Lorain County Jail at 12:47 p.m. on June 28. She was charged with tampering with evidence (a third-degree felony), possession of cocaine (a fifth-degree felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia (a fourth-degree misdemeanor). Her total bond was set at $12,750 cash or surety.

Court records show Britt appeared for arraignment on June 30, 2025, in Elyria Municipal Court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 7 at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Robert C. White. She is represented by attorney Matthew Mishak.
