Vermilion, Ohio — A woman is dead and a man is in custody following a domestic violence incident that turned deadly in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
At approximately 1:46 a.m. on July 10, officers from the City of Vermilion Police Department were dispatched to 525 Ferndale Avenue after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a male suspect was allegedly armed and had been threatening a female inside the home.
Moments later, the male suspect reportedly fired several rounds, striking the woman twice. He then attempted to take his own life by discharging the weapon into his head but stopped short at the last moment.
First responders provided life-saving measures to the female victim, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Bryan J. Hall of 525 Ferndale Avenue, was taken into custody without further incident. He has been charged with aggravated murder and transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he awaits arraignment.
The investigation is being handled by Vermilion Police detectives in cooperation with the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office, the Lorain County Coroner’s Office, and crime scene technicians from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).
Authorities have not released further details at this time.
