Lorain Police: 16-Year-Old Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Mother on W. 24th Street

LORAIN — A 45-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning in Lorain, and police say her teenage son has been arrested and charged in connection with her death.

According to a press release from the Lorain Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6:45 a.m. on August 31 to a home in the 1500 block of West 24th Street for a report of an unresponsive female.

When officers arrived, they found Melinda Green inside the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. Lifecare Ambulance personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but Green was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say evidence identified Green’s 16-year-old son as a suspect in the case. He had reportedly left the residence before police arrived but was located within hours while walking on Lorain’s west side. Police say he was taken into custody without incident.

The juvenile has been charged with murder and is being held at the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home. Police said no firearms have been recovered at this time.

Although an arrest has been made, authorities say the investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Lorain Police Detective Bureau at (440) 204-2105.
