Sheriff’s Office Warns of Phone Scam Targeting Lorain County Residents

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the community about a phone scam that has recently surfaced in the area.

According to reports, several residents have received calls from individuals claiming they missed a court appearance and that warrants had been issued for their arrest. In at least one case, the caller instructed the resident to visit the Sheriff’s Office to verify a signature before demanding payment of a fee. When the resident questioned the demand, the scammer abruptly hung up.

Sheriff Jack M. Hall emphasized that the Sheriff’s Office will never call residents to inform them of a warrant or request payment over the phone. “Any such calls are fraudulent and should be ignored,” Hall said.

Residents are urged to take the following precautions:

  • Hang up immediately if you receive a suspicious call.
  • Do not share personal or financial information.
  • Report the incident to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office stressed its commitment to protecting the community from scams and ensuring residents remain informed. Authorities encourage residents to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors, particularly those who may be more vulnerable to these types of schemes.

Anyone with concerns or reports about suspicious calls can contact Major A.J. Torres at 440-406-3517 (office), 440-896-9804 (cell), or by email at ATorres@LorainCountySheriff.com.
