Lorain’s new Police Chief Michael Failing was officially sworn in Monday evening during the Sept. 15 City Council meeting. Mayor Jack Bradley administered the oath of office before a packed council chamber filled with family, colleagues, and officers from the Lorain Police Department as well as neighboring agencies, including the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
Failing, who previously served as Deputy Chief, was pinned by his daughter in a moment that drew warm applause. The ceremony carried both light-hearted touches and deep emotion, reflecting the respect he has earned throughout the department and the city.
Mayor Bradley praised Failing’s leadership and dedication, noting his steady presence during challenging times. For many in attendance, the event symbolized a fresh chapter for the department, with optimism for what his tenure will bring.
Chief Failing now leads the department at a time when police-community relations, safety initiatives, and staffing remain pressing issues. Supporters say his years of service and record of resilience make him the right person to guide Lorain’s officers forward.
