ELYRIA— The Elyria Police reported of an early-morning incident on the 1100 block of Garden Street led to felony charges after police documented visible injuries and the victim was later diagnosed with a fractured nasal bone, according to an Elyria Police Department report.

According to the report, officers were called to the residence around 9:53 a.m. on Jan. 12 for a report of an assault. When officers arrived, the woman involved told police she and 21-year-old Knowledge Rayshawn King of Lorain had been arguing when the situation became physical. She reported that King pushed her down a set of stairs and later punched her in the face during a struggle over her cell phone. She also said King threw her phone to the ground, preventing her from calling for help.
Officers noted swelling on the woman’s nose, bruising beneath her eyes and a visible mark on her face. She was taken to University Hospitals Elyria for evaluation, where she was diagnosed with a fractured nasal bone. Police said the injuries were documented and hospital discharge paperwork was added to the case file.
King spoke with officers the same day and acknowledged that a verbal argument occurred. He admitted to grabbing and throwing the woman’s phone but denied intentionally harming her. He also suggested her injuries may have come from a previous incident or a fall, according to the report.

Police said the conflicting accounts were noted, but the documented injuries and the reported interference with a 911 call met the threshold for criminal charges. The victim later signed charges at the Elyria Police Department.
King turned himself in at the Lorain County Jail early on Jan. 13, where he was arrested on charges of felonious assault and disrupting public services. He was held without bond pending arraignment.
All charges are allegations, and King is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court
