Akron man arrested on Elyria warrants, faces new meth possession charge
Elyria police say a 59-year-old Akron man was taken into custody on August 8 on outstanding felony warrants and now faces an additional charge after officers reported finding methamphetamine during a search.
According to an Elyria Police Department report, Officer Crowell met Brimfield Township Police at the Taco Bell on Royalton Road in North Royalton around 11:30 p.m. on August 7 to take custody of Cary Collins, who was wanted on Elyria warrants for forgery (ORC 2913.31, F5) and theft (ORC 2913.02, F5).
Just after 12:30 a.m. on August 8, Brimfield officers brought Collins to the meeting location. Police say that during a search incident to arrest, Officer Crowell found a clear plastic bag containing a crystal rock substance inside Collins’ right sock. When asked, Collins allegedly identified the substance as meth.
Police said a field test returned a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine. The suspected drugs, recorded as weighing 1.0 grams with a total package weight of 7.8 grams, were seized and logged into evidence. Collins was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance (ORC 2925.11, F5).
According to the report, Collins was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he was booked and transferred to the custody of sheriff’s staff. He is being held pending arraignment in Elyria Municipal Court.
