ELYRIA — The Elyria Police Department has arrested 37-year-old Brian M. Foster of Elyria in connection with the armed robbery of Kay Jewelers, located at 550 Chestnut Commons Drive.
The robbery occurred on October 14, 2025, at about 6:29 p.m., when a masked suspect entered the store armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. Police say the suspect forced employees at gunpoint to open display cases and hand over several pieces of jewelry before fleeing on foot.

Elyria detectives launched an immediate investigation using surveillance footage, physical evidence from the scene, and assistance from the department’s K-9 unit. Leads developed during the investigation pointed to Foster. Detectives also identified a black Ford Ranger pickup truck believed to have been used in the crime.
Foster was taken into custody on October 22, 2025. Investigators recovered jewelry believed to be stolen from the store and a black BB gun resembling the weapon used in the robbery during a search of his residence.
After questioning, Foster was booked into the Lorain County Jail, where he remains held on a charge of Aggravated Robbery (ORC 2911.01), a first-degree felony.
Elyria Police Chief James P. Welsh commended the officers and detectives who handled the case.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our community and residents through swift, thorough investigations and strong partnerships with neighboring agencies,” Welsh said.
