Banned From Walmart 8 Times, Elyria Woman Arrested With $500 in Goods

ELYRIA, OH – A 35-year-old Elyria woman was arrested Thursday after allegedly attempting to leave Walmart with over $500 worth of merchandise, despite reportedly being banned by store staff from entering the premises multiple times in the past.

According to police, Sade Simmons was taken into custody around 4:44 p.m. on July 24 after Walmart Asset Protection staff identified her as a repeat offender. The employee stated that Simmons had entered the Chestnut Commons Walmart at least eight times after being trespassed by Walmart employees, though no formal trespass order had been issued through the Elyria Police Department.

Officers were called to the store and located Simmons sitting in the back seat of a black Ford Edge parked in a handicap space. She was arrested without incident and placed in the back of a patrol car.

Store security told officers they observed Simmons fill a shopping cart with a variety of items and attempt to exit the store without paying. She was stopped at the first set of doors, and all merchandise was recovered. The total value was $507.35, according to a receipt provided to police.

Surveillance footage of the incident was turned over to officers and submitted as evidence.

Simmons was arraigned the next morning in Elyria Municipal Court, where she was granted a $1,000 personal bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 3, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Robert C. White.

Court records show Simmons has a history of theft-related charges and criminal trespass, with multiple bookings dating back to 2014.

She is currently charged with theft, a first-degree misdemeanor under Ohio Revised Code 2913.02.
