LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio – James Douglas Meadows Captured: Authorities have apprehended James Douglas Meadows, 37, in Lorain County. The man was sought for a parole violation and for allegedly assaulting two Sheffield Village Police officers. Subsequently, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office announced his capture this afternoon. Officials took him into custody without further incident.

Initial Incident: Assault on Sheffield Village Officers
The search began after Meadows fled from Sheffield Village Police officers on Saturday, March 22nd. At that time, officers stopped a vehicle in which Meadows was a passenger. They confirmed an outstanding warrant for him. Meadows then struggled with and reportedly assaulted the officers. After that, he fled on foot. One handcuff remained on his wrist.
Marshals Join the Hunt; Elyria Gas Station Encounter
The U.S. Marshals Service then joined the search. Furthermore, they located Meadows at an Elyria gas station around 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 27th. Sheriff Jack Hall reported that Meadows tried to endanger the marshals’ lives. Specifically, Meadows allegedly attempted to strike them with his vehicle. Then, he fled on foot again. Major Torres stated that a short pursuit of about three miles occurred. Meadows then abandoned his vehicle.
Current Search Efforts in New Russia Township
Meanwhile, the search focused on the area of Russia Road, west of State Route 58, in New Russia Township. This area is wooded with streams and walking paths. In addition, multiple agencies participated in the operation. These included the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals, Elyria Police Department, Lorain Police Department, Oberlin Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and U.S. Border Patrol. Moreover, K-9 units and drones also assisted.
Shelter-in-Place Order and Public Alert
Initially, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office issued a shelter-in-place alert this morning. It was for residents near Annis and Russia roads and South Lake Street. The alert urged residents to lock doors and stay inside. However, officials lifted the order at 1:51 p.m.
Authorities describe James Douglas Meadows as 5-foot-7, about 170 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a tan or brown shirt and a gray beanie hat.
Sheriff’s Warning and Upcoming Updates
Sheriff Hall warned residents to call 911 if they saw Meadows. Additionally, Major Torres was expected to provide updates. Another update might occur in about two hours.
