The Charles Berry Bascule Bridge in downtown Lorain is once again open to traffic in both directions.
According to a notification posted Monday afternoon by the City of Lorain, “THE BASCULE IS COMPLETELY OPEN IN BOTH DIRECTIONS.”
The bridge, located on Lake Road near City Hall, was temporarily closed over the weekend due to a mechanical issue that left it stuck in the upright position. Crews worked quickly to address the problem, and the span reopened in just a few days. Much faster than estimates given.
The quick repair brings relief to drivers who were detoured through alternate routes in the city’s core.
