Community Rallies After Neglected Dog Found Tied to a Tree at Mill Hollow

VERMILION, OH — A severely neglected and emaciated dog was rescued at Mill Hollow this week after being discovered tied to a tree by a passerby around 10:30 a.m. The dog, now named Willow, was found dehydrated, matted, and frightened. According to Multiple Breed Rescue (MBR), the finder acted quickly, taking Willow directly to an emergency veterinary clinic where she remains under medical care. The vet team shaved away painful mats that had caused open wounds and placed her on a medical boarding plan. She will be reassessed on Tuesday.

Rescue Speaks Out

Amy Hunt, who works with Multiple Breed Rescue, expressed frustration and heartbreak over Willow’s condition. “Dogs are expensive and are a 15-year commitment,” Hunt said. “Life happens, but there are resources available, from local pet pantries to rescues that can help before it gets to this point.” Hunt stressed that help is available for struggling pet owners and urged anyone facing hardship to reach out before abandoning an animal. “There are organizations ready to help. Leaving a dog tied up and defenseless is never the answer,” she said.

Investigation and Community Call to Action

Because Mill Hollow is in Lorain County, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office would be the responding agency for any investigation. Anyone with information about who may have abandoned Willow is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (440) 329-3709.

Local rescues are also asking for the public’s help in supporting Willow’s recovery. Donations to support her ongoing treatment can be made through Venmo at MultipleBreedRescue, PayPal at rescue@mbrohio.com, or by mailing contributions to Multiple Breed Rescue, 37305 Royalton Rd, Grafton, OH 44044. If you want 100 percent of the proceeds to go to the rescue, direct contributions are best.

Looking Forward

Despite her injuries, Willow is now safe and receiving the care she desperately needs. Rescue workers remain hopeful that with treatment, time, and community support, she’ll make a full recovery and find a loving home. “Don’t worry, Willow,” Hunt said. “We’ll do everything we can for you, regardless of cost. The rest of your life will be heavenly.”
