Deputies Investigate Death Following Crash in Grafton Township

GRAFTON TOWNSHIP — Deputies from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office responded early Thursday morning to a single-vehicle crash on State Route 57 that was later determined to involve an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to 19257 State Route 57 at approximately 12:26 a.m. on October 16, 2025, after receiving a report that a vehicle had gone off the road and struck a tree in front of a residence.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 23-year-old male unresponsive in the driver’s seat. Officers forcibly entered the vehicle and began life-saving measures, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.

Deputies observed that the man had sustained what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was recovered inside the vehicle.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 440-329-3710
