Document suggests Apples Market on Meister Road may close this fall

LORAIN, OHIO — A document circulating on social media appears to announce the potential closure of the Apples grocery store at 1051 Meister Road in Lorain. The notice, dated July 29, 2025, is formatted like a press release and lists Steve Krakomperger as the store owner and Tammie Krakomperger as a media contact with Cascade Management Services, Inc.

The document states that the location is “expected to close in October,” identifying October 11 as a tentative final day. It thanks customers for over 20 years of support and says employees would be offered transfers to other Apples Market locations.

As of publication, the notice has not appeared on the company’s official website, and no formal announcement has been made to the press. However, it has been shared publicly online.

On Tuesday, an employee reached by phone at the Lorain store confirmed that she had distributed the newsletter and said the owners “wanted to do some kind of news conference or something,” though she was unsure of the details. She referred further questions to the store manager, who is expected to be available Wednesday morning.

A reporter from Lorain Daily later visited the store and spoke with an employee who confirmed that staff had been informed of a planned closure. According to the employee, the store’s lease is set to expire in November. They said the owner may be looking into future options, including the possibility of relocating the store, though nothing has been finalized. The employee also stated that staff members are being offered positions at other Apples locations.

When asked if it was acceptable to share this information publicly, the employee confirmed that it was.

The employee also mentioned rising lease costs, maintenance issues within the store, including broken restroom fixtures and long-standing facility concerns. These conditions, they suggested, may have influenced the decision not to renew the lease.

Steve and Tammie Krakomperger, through Cascade Management Services, have owned and operated Apples Markets across northern Ohio for more than two decades. They previously worked within the company before acquiring ownership in the late 1990s.

The Meister Road location has served Lorain’s west side for over 20 years. As of Tuesday evening, no official statement had been released by Cascade Management.

This is a developing story. Lorain Daily will continue to follow and report updates as more information becomes available.
