Elyria police are investigating whether a shooting that occurred during a family gathering on Sunday may have been an act of self-defense.
Officers responded around 11:14 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Melvyn Lane. At the scene, several individuals were detained for questioning, and a firearm was recovered from a vehicle where a 24-year-old Elyria resident was taken into custody.
Shortly after the incident, a 42-year-old man arrived at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center with a gunshot wound. He was later transferred to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition. No other injuries were reported at the scene, according to police.
According to investigators, the shooting followed a domestic disturbance that escalated during the family event. Detectives are actively working to determine whether the shooting was carried out in self-defense. As of Monday, no arrests have been made, and the names of those involved have not been released.
