ELYRIA — An Elyria man was arrested and jailed without bond after a reported family-related dispute led to an alleged unlawful entry into an occupied apartment on Middle Avenue, according to an Elyria Police Department report.
Police said officers were dispatched at approximately 11:30 p.m. Feb. 20 to an apartment in the 1800 block of Middle Avenue for a disturbance. According to the police narrative, dispatch advised officers the man was causing a disturbance with family and made the statement, “you don’t know if I have a gun.”
The suspect was identified as Qwanda Antwone Woodson, 44, of Elyria.
Police Describe Entry Into Apartment
According to the report, Woodson opened an unlocked front door and entered the apartment without permission. Police reported that Woodson questioned an occupant and then walked further into the residence, where he continued the disturbance.
Police said Woodson later “claimed that he would be back,” repeated the statement “you don’t know if I have a gun,” and left the apartment before officers arrived.
Officers spoke with residents and were told Woodson had been welcomed into the apartment in the past but was not permitted to enter without being greeted at the door, according to police.
Video Evidence and Arrest
Police documented that a neighboring resident provided Ring doorbell video footage showing Woodson opening the apartment door and entering the residence.
According to the report, the complainant chose to sign charges and was provided victim’s rights information. Police also advised the resident on how to request a protection order.
Police said officers later located Woodson in the area and took him into custody shortly after midnight on Feb. 21. Woodson was charged with burglary – trespass in a habitation, a fourth-degree felony, according to the report.
Woodson was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where police stated he is being held without bond pending arraignment.
