Elyria Police Lobby Attack Leads to Attempted Murder Indictment

Daniel Carrillo, 38, of Elyria, has been indicted on multiple charges, including attempted murder, after an attack inside the Elyria Police Department lobby in March.

According to court records, Carrillo was initially arrested on March 11 after allegedly assaulting a woman inside the public lobby of the police station. Witnesses reported that Carrillo and the woman entered the lobby together before the attack. Carrillo allegedly used a belt to strangle the woman during the assault before officers intervened and took him into custody.

A transcript from Elyria Municipal Court shows that Carrillo was originally charged with felonious assault, strangulation, assault, aggravated menacing, and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $750,000, and he has remained in custody at the Lorain County Jail under maximum security. His bond amount remained unchanged after the grand jury indictment.

On April 25, a Lorain County grand jury returned a formal indictment against Carrillo, adding the more serious charge of attempted murder. The indictment lists five counts: attempted murder, felonious assault, strangulation, assault, and aggravated menacing.

Reports also indicate that Carrillo may have entered the police station intending to harm an officer, but when no officer was present in the lobby, he allegedly attacked the woman instead.

Carrillo is being represented by attorney Matthew Bobrowski. His case is assigned to the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas under case number 25CR113435.

No trial date has been set as of this time.
