Elyria police make multiple arrests and execute search warrant in ongoing swatting investigation

ELYRIA — The Elyria Police Department says its investigation into a January 9 swatting incident has resulted in several arrests, a search warrant and the disruption of what detectives describe as an active drug operation connected to a Huron Street residence.

According to a January 13 press release, officers were originally attempting to locate Faith Oster, who was wanted on a Lorain Police Department warrant. Their search led them to the 300 block of Huron Street, an address police say has been tied to suspected drug activity.

Investigators later determined that the police presence in the area prompted Jeremy Oster to place the false emergency call intended to divert attention away from the residence. Jeremy Oster was arrested later that evening in Lorain.

On January 10, officers located and arrested Faith Oster at a motel in Amherst. She was turned over to the Lorain Police Department.

That same day, as part of the broader investigation into suspected drug trafficking on Huron Street, officers conducted a traffic stop near Huron Street and Lowell Street. Police arrested Andre Donte Lee and Jared Fields during the stop.

Lee, who lives at the Huron Street residence, was found with multiple types of suspected illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia and U.S. currency that investigators say is consistent with street-level drug trafficking. He was taken to the Lorain County Jail.

Detectives then obtained and executed a residential search warrant for the Huron Street home. During the search, officers reported recovering additional suspected cocaine, drug-packaging materials, digital scales and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.

As a result of the warrant and traffic stop, Lee now faces additional charges of trafficking in drugs (cocaine) and possession of drugs (cocaine), both first-degree felonies.

Fields was charged with drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, and failure to signal before changing course, turning or stopping. He was released on a summons to appear in Elyria Municipal Court.

Elyria Police Chief James Welsh praised the investigative work in a written statement, saying the case reflects the department’s coordinated effort and commitment to protecting residents.

“This case is an outstanding example of the dedication and professionalism of our officers and detectives. Their swift and thorough investigative work not only led to the arrest of the individual responsible for the dangerous swatting incident, but also disrupted an ongoing drug operation in our community. I’m proud of the coordinated effort and commitment shown by our team to protect the citizens of Elyria,” Welsh said.

The investigation remains active. Additional charges may be filed as evidence continues to be reviewed and analyzed.
