Elyria Police Report Odd Drug Concealment Attempt After Midnight Arrest

Elyria police arrested a 29-year-old man early Thursday morning after a short foot chase and what officers described as several unusual attempts to conceal drug paraphernalia. The incident occurred around 12:16 a.m. in the area of Woodland Avenue and Spruce Street, according to the police report.

Officers said they first observed Charles Leroy Walker Jr. walking through driveways, avoiding street lights, and tightening his hoodie over his face as a marked cruiser approached. When police attempted to make contact, Walker ran. During the brief chase, officers reported seeing him throw what appeared to be a crack pipe.

Once detained, Walker complied with orders and provided his identity. Officers illuminated him with a spotlight and asked whether he had anything illegal on him. Walker said he did not and gave officers permission to search his pockets.

According to the report, officers found a pen tube modified into a “tooter” straw in Walker’s coat, with one end melted and warped. A further search revealed three more tooter straws tucked into the waistband of the shorts he was wearing beneath his jeans.

The most unusual moment of the encounter occurred when officers noticed a cylindrical object tucked into the center of Walker’s waistband. When asked what it was, Walker responded, “That’s my d@$&.” Officers wrote in their report that the object was clearly not part of the male reproductive system. When they reached for it, Walker allegedly attempted to shove the container deeper into his pants. Officers restrained him and removed the item, which they described as a small hard-plastic container.

A field test later registered a positive result for methamphetamine, and officers logged the contents as 1.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Walker was transported to the Lorain County Jail. During intake, officers located additional paraphernalia concealed in his clothing, including a metal smoking device with burnt chore boy and a second smoking device, also containing burnt chore boy. Both items were entered into evidence.

Walker was charged with:

Possession of Methamphetamine (F5)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M4)
Tampering with Evidence (F3)
Illegal Conveyance into a Detention Facility (F3)

Walker is being held on bonds totaling $22,750 and is scheduled to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on December 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
