Elyria police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Monday morning, September 15, at the intersection of State Route 57 and Cleveland Street.
Officers were called to the scene around 6:38 a.m., where a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Lifecare EMS responded and transported the victim, a 58-year-old woman, to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to police, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Dodge Charger, driven by a 22-year-old man traveling eastbound on Cleveland Street, attempted to turn north onto Route 57 when the collision occurred.
Authorities say alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the pedestrian during this tragic time,” said Captain Bill Lantz of the Elyria Police Department. “We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.”
