A high-speed pursuit unfolded across Lorain County on Saturday after an initial call reported a man threatening someone with a baseball bat at a residence near Phillip Court, off Furnace Street in Elyria. Early scanner traffic indicated the incident began as a domestic situation involving an ex-boyfriend making threats inside a home.
The suspect fled the scene in a silver BMW, triggering a multi-agency pursuit. Witnesses reported the vehicle speeding through multiple cities at over 80 mph. One bystander, Teresa Wheeler, stated, “Just passed me on Lake!!! They were flying!!!”
The chase traveled north on Lake Avenue, then eastbound on North Ridge Road, with speeds topping 70 mph. Agencies involved included the Elyria Police Department (EPD), the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), and the Ohio State Patrol (OSP). Eventually, the pursuit headed southbound on Route 57 before turning west on I-90. EPD disengaged from the pursuit, but LCSO continued until the vehicle was last seen westbound on I-90.
During the chase, the suspect reportedly struck another vehicle near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Route 113. EPD responded to the crash site.
The BMW involved is registered to a 24-year-old male from Westlake. No immediate arrests or injuries have been confirmed.
The situation remains under investigation, and Amherst Police were notified of the vehicle’s potential path.
