LORAIN COUNTY, OHIO — A high-speed police pursuit involving two vehicles—believed to be a red Dodge Durango and a white Dodge Charger—raced through multiple communities Wednesday evening, ending in at least two crash scenes, multiple arrests, and one suspect still at large as of the latest reports.
According to real-time radio traffic updates shared by Scanning RF, the pursuit began earlier in the day with a vehicle that had reportedly been spotted multiple times this week using different license plates across Lorain County. Law enforcement agencies including the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP), Lorain County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Lorain Police Department (LPD), and Amherst Police became involved as the vehicles traveled at speeds exceeding 100 mph in some areas.
Tire Damage, Multiple Sightings
The chase was observed at several locations:
- Baumhart Road, Middle Ridge Road, and Quarry Road, where speeds varied between 45–100 mph
- Route 58, where the vehicles were seen heading northbound with all tires reportedly blown out
- Park and Leavitt, where the driver allegedly ran a red light while going nearly 80 mph
OSP officers were heard requesting permission to conduct a PIT maneuver as one vehicle began losing control.
Multiple Vehicles Struck
The suspect vehicle reportedly struck an OSP cruiser and later a patrol vehicle near Route 58 and Leavitt Road. As the pursuit progressed:
- A major multi-vehicle crash occurred at Meister and Leavitt, where witnesses said two suspects were taken into custody at gunpoint
- Emergency responders, including LifeCare EMS, were dispatched to treat multiple victims, including a pregnant woman
- A second crash was confirmed by OSP at Oak Point Road, where a three-car motor vehicle accident (MVA) also occurred
One Suspect Fled, Several in Custody
While multiple individuals were taken into custody at the scene, one occupant from the red Durango reportedly fled on foot near the Apple Orchard development area. Law enforcement continued searching the area into the evening.
OSP confirmed two people were arrested and several other vehicles were involved in the crash. The number of injuries remains unconfirmed at this time.
Community Impact
Residents along the chase route reported seeing the suspects fly past their homes, with many expressing concern and shock on social media. Others described hearing sirens for over 30 minutes as the pursuit traveled through Lorain, Amherst, and Elyria.
As of this report, Route 58 remained blocked near Meister, and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
