Juvenile Missing in Elyria River Near East Falls Riverwalk

Emergency crews are searching the Black River behind the Elyria Police Department after a juvenile reportedly entered the water early Friday morning and did not resurface.

Witnesses at the scene said two boys were present when one jumped into the river. The other ran to get help.

A man identifying himself as the father of one of the boys told Lorain Daily that his son and the missing juvenile were together at the time of the incident. He said the juvenile not his son’s phone pinged around 5 a.m. but has not pinged since. That detail has not been confirmed by police.

Agencies on scene include Elyria Police, Elyria Fire and Water Rescue, and additional units from neighboring departments, including Avon and Wellington.

Captain Lance of the Elyria Police Department declined to speak directly but said a press release would be issued shortly. As of publication, no official statement has been released.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow.
