A community Town Hall meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Lorain High School Auditorium at 2600 Ashland Avenue. The event aims to give residents a chance to meet and hear from the four candidates running for the Lorain City Schools Board of Education.
Organizers describe the Town Hall as a welcoming and informative opportunity for voters to learn directly from those seeking election. The forum is not a debate, but rather a moderated discussion designed to promote respectful dialogue and help voters make informed decisions ahead of the November election. Questions will be submitted in advance by students, with additional questions taken from the audience during the event.
Candidates running for the Lorain Board of Education this year include:
- Bill Sturgill, a current board member with over 20 years of service
- Davon Jeffers
- Diamaris Rosario
- Mark Anthony Ballard II, son of current board member Mark Ballard
Two Board of Education seats are up for election this year, currently held by Bill Sturgill and Jay Ferguson.
This election follows several recent changes to the board. Barbie Washington chose not to seek re-election, while Jay Ferguson was disqualified from the race. Sturgill is seeking another term. In two years, the seats held by Courtney Nazario and Mark Ballard I will be up for election.
The Lorain City Schools Town Hall will be moderated to ensure a fair and productive conversation. If candidates are unable to attend, organizers plan to discuss broader topics related to education in the community.
Residents are encouraged to attend this important civic event and take part in learning more about those shaping the future of Lorain’s schools. The entrance to the auditorium is located at the rear of the high school, next to the district offices.
