Lorain County Communities Take Part in National “No Kings” Protest Day

Residents across Lorain County are taking part today in the national “No Kings” protest movement, with events scheduled this morning in both Avon and North Ridgeville. The demonstrations are part of a coordinated day of action organized by local groups in response to a military parade being held in Washington, D.C., to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Army.

In Avon, participants are gathering at the northwest corner of Route 83 and Detroit Road. The event is organized by the Avon Democratic Club and is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In North Ridgeville, a concurrent demonstration is taking place at the intersection of Lorain Road and Lear Road, organized by the North Ridgeville Democrats. Both events were announced in advance through local networks and Democratic Party channels, and are promoted as peaceful, nonviolent gatherings.

According to event listings and public materials from organizers, the Lorain County protests are among hundreds occurring nationwide on June 14 under the banner of “No Kings Day.” The movement was planned by multiple grassroots organizations and community coalitions, and includes demonstrations in major cities and suburban communities throughout the country.

The date was selected to coincide with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday and the military parade he is attending in the nation’s capital. Supporters of the “No Kings” campaign describe the coordinated protest as a show of civic resistance to displays of political power that they view as symbolic of authoritarian leadership. Organizers have called for demonstrators to gather peacefully in visible public areas, with a focus on community participation and local messaging.

Across Ohio, similar protests are taking place today in cities including Cleveland, Parma, Mentor, Sandusky, and Akron. In downtown Cleveland, a larger regional gathering is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Willard Park near the Free Stamp sculpture. Other demonstrations are expected throughout the day in locations such as Ridgewood Lake Park in Parma and the Sandusky Mall on Milan Road.

In total, more than 1,800 “No Kings” protests are scheduled nationwide, according to organizers affiliated with the broader campaign. Event listings indicate that local efforts have been led by a mix of advocacy groups, neighborhood associations, and local political clubs, with turnout varying widely by location.

As of this report, no official attendance figures or incident updates have been released for the Lorain County events. Local law enforcement agencies were notified in advance and are monitoring activity to ensure safety and traffic flow.

The protests are expected to conclude by early afternoon. Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
