Elyria — Around 1 p.m. Thursday, Lorain County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a silver Lincoln MKX SUV, but the driver allegedly fled, prompting deputies to request assistance from Elyria Police.
According to authorities, law enforcement briefly lost sight of the vehicle but soon received a tip that it had been ditched behind a residence near 630 Cambridge Avenue. Deputies say the male suspect allegedly fled on foot while his female passenger remained at the scene. Both were later taken into custody in the area of Cambridge Avenue and Henry Court.
Deputies reported that 9mm ammunition was recovered from the vehicle. The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified the male suspect at this time. While monitoring scanner traffic during the incident, an officer stated that the male suspect allegedly made a threat toward deputies; however, this statement has not been confirmed.
During the pursuit, Eastern Heights Middle School and Eastern Heights Elementary School were briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution. Law enforcement confirmed that the lockdowns have since been lifted and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Both suspects were transported to the Lorain County Jail, and the Lincoln MKX SUV was towed from the scene.
