Lorain’s Lighthouse Stars in New Thriller Beneath the Light

LORAIN — Hollywood-based filmmaker and Lorain native John Baumgartner is coming home to celebrate the Ohio premiere of his supernatural thriller, Beneath the Light. The red-carpet premiere takes place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Lorain Palace Theatre, giving local audiences the first chance to experience the film.

Shot almost entirely in Lorain — including stunning scenes inside the historic Lorain Lighthouse — Beneath the Light follows the story of a man who returns to his hometown after his mother’s death, accepts a job at the old lighthouse, and uncovers chilling secrets that tie his past to the town’s most haunting mysteries. The movie blends suspense, emotion, and local history, showcasing Lorain’s landmarks in a way audiences have never seen before.

For Baumgartner, bringing this project back to where it all began was deeply personal. A graduate of Lorain, he credits his roots for shaping his creative journey and wanted the premiere to feel like a celebration of the community that inspired him.

“This movie is a love letter to Lorain,” Baumgartner shared in recent remarks about the project. “The city, the lighthouse, the community — it’s all part of the story. There’s nowhere else I would rather share this with audiences for the first time.”
