ELYRIA — A Lorain man is facing multiple felony charges following a reported early morning assault at a home on Franklin Avenue, according to Elyria police.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 5:26 a.m. on March 27 to the 200 block of Franklin Avenue for a domestic violence complaint. Dispatchers advised that the suspect, identified as 44-year-old James Lind Jr., had allegedly assaulted a woman at the residence and left the area in a black Honda van before returning.
According to a police report, the victim told officers she had been sleeping on a couch when Lind entered the home, possibly using a key. She said he accused her of infidelity and began striking her multiple times with a closed fist.
The victim reported the assault lasted several minutes before she ran toward the kitchen and grabbed a knife in an attempt to defend herself. Lind allegedly took control of the knife and made a slashing motion, causing a cut to her finger. The altercation continued, and the victim told police she lost consciousness at one point during the incident.
After regaining consciousness, the victim reported Lind dragged her into a bathroom, where she said he forced her to remain while she used the toilet. She told police he stated she was “not going nowhere” and implied he had access to a firearm.
The victim was eventually able to get away and run upstairs, where children were present in the home.
Police said Lind exited the residence through a window and was seen on the roof by a neighbor. He briefly left the area before returning and re-entering the home prior to officers arriving.
Lind was taken into custody at the scene without further incident and transported to the Lorain County Jail.
Police documented injuries including a cut to the victim’s finger, swelling and bruising around her eye, and additional marks on her body. The victim declined medical transport. Lind was also noted to have scratches on his neck and cheek.
Lind is charged with aggravated burglary, felonious assault, and abduction, along with misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and criminal trespass.
His bond was set at $160,000. As of Monday, the case remains pending in Elyria Municipal Court, with a preliminary hearing scheduled.
