A Lorain man was shot and killed early Friday morning during an apparent home intrusion on Homewood Drive, according to the Lorain Police Department.
Just before 5:00 a.m. on May 17, officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man exiting the residence with a firearm. “He just came out — he has a gun in hand. He dropped it. He complied,” one officer reported over police radio. Two individuals were detained at the scene, and officers began to clear the home.
Inside, police found Clayton Parker, 48, of Lorain, lying unresponsive just inside the front door. “I need everyone here — I have a male down in the front room,” an officer was heard saying over the scanner. Parker had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
During the response, officers sought to confirm whether Parker was a resident or an intruder. “Is he supposed to be there, or is this a victim?” one officer asked over the radio. The reply: “Victim. Somebody broke in and shot him.”
According to the official police statement, preliminary findings suggest Parker may have been attempting to break into the residence when at least one occupant fired a legally owned firearm. Multiple firearms were collected from the scene as evidence.
No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed as of Friday evening. The Lorain Police Criminal Investigations Bureau is handling the case in coordination with the Lorain County Coroner’s Office.
