ELYRIA, OH — A man is recovering after being shot during an altercation early Saturday morning that began at a local bar and continued at a residence on Elyria’s west side.
Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Clark Street around 2:40 a.m. for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 35-year-old man outside the home with gunshot wounds. The victim received medical treatment at the scene from LifeCare Ambulance and was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition and has spoken with investigators.
According to the Elyria Police Department, the incident stemmed from an earlier dispute between two women while at a bar. The argument escalated when both agreed to meet at the Clark Street residence, where a physical fight took place.
Levi Webb, 26, of Parma, reportedly drove one of the women to the location. During the confrontation, police say Webb, who was under the influence of alcohol, fired multiple rounds from a firearm, striking the male victim.
Webb fled the scene with one of the women but was located shortly after near the intersection of Chestnut Ridge Road and Abbe Road. Police say the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered near his vehicle. Both Webb and the woman were taken to the Elyria Police Department for questioning.
Webb has been charged with felonious assault and using weapons while intoxicated. He was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he is being held pending a court appearance.
“This was a reckless and dangerous situation that had the potential to end in far greater tragedy,” said Captain Bill Lantz, Public Information Officer for the Elyria Police Department. “It serves as a stark reminder of how alcohol, poor decision-making, and firearms can create deadly circumstances. We commend our officers’ swift response to this isolated incident.”
The investigation is ongoing. Police have not released the name of the victim in accordance with state privacy laws. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Homoki at 440-326-1215 or via email at [email protected].
