Man With Knife Arrested After Police Called Three Times to Elyria Home in One Day

An Elyria man was arrested Wednesday morning after police were called multiple times to the same residence, according to a report from the Elyria Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to a home on the 200 block of 5th Street on March 18, 2026, for a reported disturbance. According to the police narrative, officers arriving on scene heard yelling coming from the backyard area of the residence.

A male, later identified as 32-year-old Jordan Sand, exited the home holding what officers described as a silver knife. Officers ordered him to drop the knife, and he complied. He was then placed under investigative detention without incident.

Police spoke with a woman at the residence who said Sand had been staying at the home for two nights. She told officers she asked him to leave that morning, which led to an argument.

According to her statement, Sand became angry, threw her onto a couch, got on top of her, and struck her repeatedly. She also reported that a room divider was broken and that the home was left in disarray, with furniture overturned and household items damaged.

The woman was able to get away and call police.

The report states this was the third time police had been called to the residence involving Sand that same day. The narrative indicates there had been two prior calls earlier in the day, though details of those incidents were not included in the report.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and evaluated the woman. Police documented visible injuries, including marks on her face and arms consistent with being grabbed. She refused further treatment at the hospital, according to the report.

Officers also recovered a butter knife on the front porch, which was photographed and entered into evidence.

After being advised of his rights, Sand told officers he did not assault the woman and said he was attempting to leave the residence. He stated he did not intend to harm anyone.

Sand was arrested and charged with assault, criminal damaging, and vandalism.

While being transported to the Lorain County Jail, police say Sand became irate and began headbutting the partition inside the patrol vehicle, causing a laceration to his head. He also kicked the rear doors of the cruiser, which led to an additional vandalism charge.

Due to his behavior, Sand was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where he was treated and sedated. After being discharged later that afternoon, he was transported to the Lorain County Jail.

He is being held without bond pending his initial court appearance in Elyria Municipal Court.

Additional details about the earlier calls to the residence and the full circumstances leading up to the incident were not available in the report at this time.
