LORAIN, Ohio – Former FBI agent Raymond Michael Massie, an expert in corruption probes, has joined the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office. Massie, who led the large Cuyahoga County corruption probe, will now head a new unit in Lorain County dedicated to investigating corruption.
A Distinguished Career Investigating Corruption
Before joining the Lorain County Sheriff, Raymond Michael Massie spent nearly 23 years with the FBI. During this time, he became known as an effective and respected investigator, especially in cases of corruption. His leadership of the Cuyahoga County corruption probe highlights his skill. This major investigation uncovered widespread bribery. It resulted in the convictions of about 60 people, including prominent figures like Frank Russo and Jimmy Dimora. Sheriff Jack Hall announced Massie’s hiring. He stressed how important this new unit is for tackling corruption in Lorain County.
Initial Focus: The Tomlinson Investigation
Sheriff Hall said that Massie has already started his work. His first task will be the ongoing investigation into claims against former Lorain County Prosecutor J.D. Tomlinson and a female employee. Although previous charges against Tomlinson were dropped in November, this new investigation, led by an experienced investigator like Massie, shows the commitment to fully examine these claims of possible corruption in Lorain County.
Sheriff Hall’s Confidence in Massie’s Expertise
“Investigating public corruption helps the people of the county. It makes sure our government is free of any kind of improper actions,” Sheriff Hall stated. “And Mike really understood that and embraced that idea.” Furthermore, Hall said he has great confidence in Massie’s abilities. He believes Massie’s deep experience in corruption probes will greatly benefit Lorain County.
