The Memorial Day weekend brought a surge in law enforcement activity across Lorain, with police responding to more than two dozen calls involving pursuits, endangerment, domestic disputes, vandalism, suspected fraud, drug complaints, and firearms-related incidents. The following is a summary of key reports from Friday, May 23 through the morning of Monday, May 26.

Friday, May 23

12:27 a.m. — Officers discovered shell casings and broken glass at an unspecified location. No injuries were reported. The incident is being investigated as a possible shooting.

Evening — A police pursuit involving two stolen vehicles—a red Dodge Durango and a white Dodge Challenger—ended in two separate crashes. The Durango struck two vehicles near Oak Point Road and Deerfield Estates. The Challenger later collided with three cars at State Route 58 and Meister Road. Three suspects were arrested and face felony charges including fleeing and eluding, vehicular assault, and possession of stolen property. No life-threatening injuries were reported.

Throughout the day — Police responded to multiple child endangerment calls:

  • At 4380 N. Leavitt Road, three young children were found unattended in a parked vehicle while adults were inside a business.
  • Minutes later, an infant was reported left alone in a running car parked in a fire lane off State Route 83. Both incidents remain under investigation.

Unspecified time — A caregiver on West Erie Avenue was accused of misusing funds intended for a patient. Further details have not been released.

Saturday, May 24

Morning — Officers responded again to 4380 N. Leavitt Road, where a small child was found alone in a vehicle with a cracked window. No adult was on scene. This was the second call to the location in 24 hours.

Time unknown — A juvenile girl was bitten by a dog. Her father transported her to the hospital but did not initially notify police or animal control. The matter was later reported to authorities.

12:27 a.m. — A possible firearm-related domestic dispute was reported. Wanda Conway told dispatchers that Day Beyond Williams, the father of her child, allegedly fired a gun at her. Police have not publicly confirmed further details.

Sunday, May 25

12:09 p.m. — A road rage incident occurred near 2 North Leavitt Road involving a truck hauling a trailer and a four-wheeler. The vehicles reportedly exited State Route 2 westbound. Officers were unable to intercept.

4:29 p.m. — Multiple motorcycles without license plates were reported weaving through traffic and cutting off vehicles in a shopping plaza on West River Road. Officers responded; no apprehensions were confirmed.

5:00 p.m. — A traffic stop near 1390 Colorado Avenue resulted in a citation issued for contempt of court.

7:06 p.m. — Officers were dispatched to Maple Drive for a verbal altercation that escalated into threats of physical violence. No arrests were reported.

8:36 p.m. — A domestic disturbance was reported within city limits. Officers responded; no injuries or arrests were confirmed.

9:03 p.m. — A homeowner reported garage door vandalism after seeing several juveniles fleeing the area. The incident is under investigation. Similar vandalism patterns, attributed to a viral social media trend, have been reported in other Northeast Ohio communities.

Monday, May 26

Early morning — Officers responded to reports of vehicles doing donuts in a residential neighborhood. The vehicles had left the scene prior to arrival.

Other weekend incidents under investigation include:

  • A fire at the Natural Way Apartments
  • A 911 hang-up traced to a hotel room
  • A burglary complaint involving the Old Trico building
  • Juveniles allegedly throwing rocks at passing vehicles
  • A stolen firearm reported from a vehicle on Oneil Boulevard
