LORAIN — Police responded Sunday morning to reports of multiple gunshots in the 800 block of West 18th Street. The incident was reported around 7:30 a.m. after several callers reported hearing bursts of gunfire.
Officers arriving on scene located shell casings on the ground and began searching the area. According to radio traffic and scanner reports, one male was later detained on Maryland Drive, north of Colorado Avenue. Investigators also searched for a yellow Dodge Ram pickup that fled the scene.
A gunshot residue (GSR) kit was used on a suspect, and a 9mm handgun was reportedly recovered at the scene.
At this time, it remains unconfirmed whether anyone was struck by the gunfire. Early scanner chatter mentioned a possible person down, but no injuries have been confirmed.
Lorain police were contacted for comment but did not immediately respond.
