Ohio’s Division of Cannabis Control has issued new regulations that will impose daily purchase limits on recreational marijuana sales beginning June 4.
Under the updated guidance, adults aged 21 and older will be allowed to purchase up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis flower per day. Additionally, non-plant cannabis products—such as edibles, tinctures, and vape cartridges—will be limited to a combined total of 15,000 milligrams of THC per day. For example, a 500 mg vape pen and a 100 mg package of gummies would be counted as 600 mg toward that limit.
The new limits apply solely to adult-use consumers. Medical marijuana patients in Ohio will continue to follow the existing 90-day supply model and remain a priority for dispensary inventory access.
According to the Division, dispensaries are permitted to sell the maximum daily amounts, but they are not required to do so. The agency noted that the updated rules come nearly one year after adult-use sales began in August 2024 and are designed to help maintain a balanced market for both recreational and medical users.
Dispensaries must ensure their sales systems accurately reflect THC amounts in accordance with the state’s tracking system, Metrc. Any operational changes made to comply with the new rules must be formally submitted through the Division’s eLicense portal.
Violations of the purchase limits may result in enforcement action.
