Police Arrest Elyria Man with Baggies of Fentanyl, Cocaine, and Pills

ELYRIA, OHIO — Ricardo Michail Johnson, 39, of Elyria, was arrested on the evening of May 23, 2025, after Elyria Police responded to a complaint involving suspicious behavior on Broad Street. The investigation led to the discovery of multiple illegal substances, including suspected fentanyl and cocaine.

According to a report filed by Officers Tomlin and Gonzales, police were dispatched at approximately 4:19 p.m. to 822 Broad Street after a resident reported a man in a black shirt and ripped blue jeans acting erratically and speaking incoherently. The caller believed the man was under the influence of drugs. The suspect reportedly left the area in a blue Nissan Altima, which officers later traced to a Cleveland resident.

Officers located the unoccupied vehicle near Water Street and began searching the area. A man matching the description was seen approaching the vehicle and began walking toward Hinkle Court. Officers attempted to stop him, but he continued walking away and refused multiple commands to sit down.

When officers moved to detain him, the man—identified as Johnson—refused to comply. After being handcuffed, officers observed a bulging pocket in his jeans. Inside, they found a crumpled $20 bill and multiple large baggies filled with pills and white powder.

Officers conducted field tests on the substances. The white powder tested positive for cocaine, while pills bearing a “Redbull” imprint tested positive for fentanyl. Additional pills were identified as naloxone, commonly known as Narcan.

Johnson was transported to the Lorain County Jail without further incident. Police cataloged the following items from his possession:

  • 17.3g, 15.2g, and 2.5g of suspected cocaine
  • 65 white pills suspected to contain fentanyl
  • 13 orange round naloxone pills
  • One white baggie with small round white pills with a Redbull logo

In total, police seized over 55 grams of suspected drugs.

Johnson faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), possession of a fentanyl-related compound, obstructing official business, and disorderly conduct while intoxicated. According to jail records, he remains in custody at the Lorain County Jail under maximum security classification. His bond has been set at $980.

A court hearing is scheduled for May 27, 2025, in Elyria Municipal Court.
