Search for Missing Elyria Teen Continues as Police Call Disappearance ‘Suspicious’

The search for 16-year-old Vincent Pabon continued Friday in Elyria after he was reported missing near the Black River early Thursday morning. Elyria Police Captain Bill Lantz confirmed the disappearance is being treated as suspicious and stated that additional fire department personnel are expected to return to the search area later today.

Crews initially searched the steep terrain near the East Falls Riverwalk, deploying divers, sonar equipment, drones with thermal imaging, K9 units, and ground teams. On Friday, fewer personnel were visible at the East Falls Riverwalk site. Search teams may have temporarily shifted to other areas along the river, though Captain Lance confirmed fire personnel would be returning to the original location later in the day.

Vincent’s family has given permission for his name and photo to be shared in hopes that public awareness may lead to answers. As of Friday afternoon, Vincent had not been found.

Captain Lantz was seen on-site offering comfort and updates to family members during the ongoing operation. His interaction with the family reflected the seriousness and humanity behind the continued search.

According to police, Vincent was last seen in the early morning hours of August 7 near the East Falls Riverwalk. He had reportedly been with a 24-year-old acquaintance, Jacob Rosado, and may have fallen into the Black River. Rosado has been charged with tampering with evidence and contributing to the unruliness of a minor. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
