Sheriff: Innocent Woman Shot in Amherst Twp Road Rage Case

AMHERST TOWNSHIP, OHIO — A 32-year-old woman was shot Monday morning in a road rage incident that spanned multiple cities and ended in gunfire on Leavitt Road in Amherst Township.

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7500 block of Leavitt Road at 7:56 a.m. on May 19, where they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She had been driving a vehicle with five passengers, none of whom were injured. Amherst Fire Department provided medical assistance, and the victim was transported to a hospital. Her condition remains unknown.

A second victim, located in the City of Oberlin, was not injured and is cooperating with investigators.

The suspect has been identified as Nicholas John DeJesus, a 27-year-old resident of Amherst. DeJesus turned himself in to the Amherst Police Department following the May 19 shooting on Leavitt Road in Amherst Township. He is currently being held without bond at the Lorain County Jail under maximum security classification. According to jail records, he has been charged with one count of Felonious Assault and is scheduled to appear in court on May 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.

According to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, the woman who was shot had no involvement in the verbal altercation that led to the shooting. The incident reportedly began in Lorain and escalated as it moved into Amherst Township.
