Lorain County Community College is set to undertake a $9.3 million renovation project to upgrade its John A. Spitzer Conference Center and surrounding campus infrastructure. The plan was first reported by Crain’s Cleveland Business, which noted that the project includes improvements to the conference center, parking areas, roofing work, and other facility enhancements across LCCC’s Elyria campus.
The project will take place at the College’s Elyria campus and will cover upgrades including the conference center, parking areas, roofing work and campus systems. Part of the allocation listed just under $6 million specifically for the conference center. The facility, built in 1994, spans more than 58,000 square feet and serves a variety of educational and community events.
According to state Representative Joe Miller’s office, the funding was released through Ohio’s Capital Budget/Controlling Board mechanism. The official announcement noted that $5,930,913.72 would be directed to the Spitzer Center portion of the project.
The renovations come after earlier infrastructure investments at the College. Earlier this year, approximately $2.3 million was released for facility upgrades and workforce-training equipment, including roof replacements at the Spitzer Center and University Center.
College officials say the project is aimed at improving event-space quality, increasing classroom and meeting-space capacity, enhancing accessibility and modernizing facilities to better serve students and community partners. The Spitzer Center is described on the College website as “Northeast Ohio’s destination for special events.”
Construction details such as start date, contractor selection and completion timeline have not yet been released publicly. At this time, the College has not provided a detailed breakdown of how the full $9.3 million will be allocated between the conference center and other campus improvements, nor a schedule showing how campus operations may be affected during renovation.
Once announced, the upgrades are expected to bolster the College’s ability to host larger events and support workforce development programming while enhancing the student-experience infrastructure.
