Titans Suffer Crushing Defeat Against Pirates

By Aaron Knapp, Staff Writer

LORAIN, OH – The Lorain Titans varsity softball team experienced a tough outing on Tuesday, falling to the undefeated Rocky River Pirates by a decisive score of 21-1. The loss, which occurred on April 1st, marks the third consecutive defeat for the Titans and represents their lowest-scoring contest of the current 2025 season.

Despite the lopsided score, there was a glimmer of offensive success for Lorain. Junior Vada Blankenship provided a highlight for the Titans, going 1-for-2 at the plate and hitting a solo home run. However, Blankenship’s effort wasn’t enough to spark a wider offensive rally against a strong Rocky River team.

With this loss, the Lorain Titans now hold an overall record of 2 wins and 3 losses. Meanwhile, the Rocky River Pirates continue their strong start to the season, maintaining a perfect record of 4 wins and 0 losses.

Looking ahead, both teams were scheduled to play again on Thursday, April 3rd. The Lorain Titans were set to face Open Door Christian at 5:00 p.m., while the Rocky River Pirates were slated to compete against Westlake, also at 5:00 p.m. Notably, Westlake has shown vulnerability to opposing batters this season, allowing an average of 10.25 runs per game, a statistic the Pirates likely aimed to exploit.

The Lorain Titans will look to rebound from this tough stretch as their season progresses. Their next scheduled home game is against Oberlin today, Friday, April 4th, at 5:00 p.m.
