Twerking on Parked Cars Leads to Underage Alcohol Arrest

ELYRIA — A 19-year-old Elyria woman was arrested late Sunday night after a neighbor reported she had been twerking on parked cars and causing a disturbance. Police later observed her exiting a nearby residence holding an alcoholic beverage.

According to the Elyria Police Department, officers were dispatched to Portia Court around 11:14 p.m. on April 28 following multiple reports of a large group gathering and fighting outside. Upon arrival, a resident at 124 Portia Court told officers that a woman had been repeatedly causing problems in the area, including twerking on vehicles and refusing to stop when asked.

While officers were speaking with the complainant, Kniyah Danielle Carter, 19, exited a neighboring residence at 122 Portia Court carrying a 16-ounce can of MXD Margarita, an alcoholic beverage with a 12% alcohol content. The can was reportedly half empty. Carter admitted to officers that she was 19 years old, under the legal drinking age.

She was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of Underage Persons Alcohol Offense, a first-degree misdemeanor under Ohio law. No additional charges, such as disorderly conduct or public intoxication, were filed in connection with the incident. Officers did not report any property damage related to the twerking complaint.

Although a crowd had gathered at the scene, Carter was the only individual arrested. Police did not provide information about whether any citations or warnings were issued to others present.

Carter was transported to the Lorain County Jail and held on a $1,000 cash/surety bond. She posted bond and was released later that afternoon. Her initial court appearance was scheduled for the morning of April 29.

This is not Carter’s first encounter with law enforcement. Jail records show she was previously charged with simple assault in February 2024 and has faced two contempt of court violations, one in June 2024 and another in March 2025. Both incidents involved bench warrants.

No injuries were reported during Sunday night’s incident, and police have not indicated that additional charges are pending.
