Violent Lorain Standoff Ends With Arrest on 8 Charges

LORAIN — A man with a history of violent offenses was taken into custody Thursday evening following a reported domestic incident on the 300 block of West 28th Street.

According to Lorain Police Capt. Jacob Morris, officers were dispatched around 6:05 p.m. after a neighbor reported a possible domestic violence situation. Upon arrival, police observed signs of a disturbance, including broken windows, damaged property, and blood near the doors of the residence.

Officers forced entry through a back door and were able to get a female victim to safety. She appeared injured and had visible blood on her when officers escorted her out. She informed police the suspect was still inside. Officers then engaged in tactical measures to take the man into custody, which resulted in additional charges for resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Antovion T. Washington of Lorain, faces the following charges from this incident:

  • Domestic Violence – 4 counts
  • Unlawful Restraint – 1 count (Misdemeanor 3)
  • Obstructing Official Business – 1 count
  • Resisting Arrest – 1 count
  • Acts in Contempt of Court – 1 count (Bench Warrant)

Washington was booked into the Lorain County Jail on $150,000 total bond and classified as a maximum-security inmate. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 20 in Lorain Municipal Court.
