Woman Charged After Allegedly Jumping on Car While Partially Unclothed in Elyria

An Elyria woman is facing multiple misdemeanor charges following a police response to reports of erratic behavior in a parking lot earlier this month, according to Elyria Police Department records and court filings.

The incident occurred on the evening of January 16, 2026, in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Brunswick Drive. Police say they were dispatched after receiving multiple calls reporting a woman acting erratically in the area. According to the police narrative, callers reported that the woman was naked from the waist down and climbing on a vehicle in the parking lot.

Officers arrived around 9:40 p.m. and made contact with the woman, later identified in court records as Amanda N. Sanner. Police state that she was partially unclothed and behaving erratically when officers attempted to speak with her. The report alleges that she jumped onto a vehicle that did not belong to her and entered another vehicle without permission.

According to police, officers attempted to gain compliance and remove her from the vehicle. The narrative states that she initially resisted officers’ commands, which led to her being taken into custody. No weapons or contraband were reported to have been found during a search.

Police documentation notes that officers believed the woman may have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident. Officers also referenced the possibility of substance use as a contributing factor. No medical diagnosis or toxicology results are included in the report, and no confirmation of mental health or substance-related conditions has been made public.

After the arrest, officers conducted a welfare check at a nearby residence associated with the woman. According to the report, the residence was found in disarray. Police did not specify whether anyone else was present, and no additional charges related to the residence were listed. It is not known at this time whether any follow-up services or evaluations were conducted.

Court records show that Sanner was formally charged in Elyria Municipal Court with five offenses stemming from the incident: obstructing official business, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, public indecency, and disorderly conduct. All charges are misdemeanors.

An arraignment was held on January 20, 2026, during which the court found probable cause. No bond was set at that time, and a bond hearing was scheduled. As of Friday, January 23, 2026, a bond hearing is listed on the court docket. The outcome of that hearing was not available at the time of publication.

Court records indicate that the case remains pending. No plea has been entered publicly, and no trial date has been scheduled. It is not known whether the defendant is currently in custody or has been released following the bond hearing.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and no damage estimates were listed in the court filings. Police did not indicate whether the owner of the vehicle involved intends to pursue restitution.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
