A 45-year-old woman was hospitalized this morning after being shot in the back while driving on Middle Ridge Road near State Route 58 in Lorain County.
The woman was operating a van registered to New Horizons, a transportation company based in Wakeman, Ohio. According to scanner traffic and early reports circulating on social media, the victim sustained a single gunshot wound to the back. The bullet did not exit the body.
The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. and prompted an immediate response from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and Amherst Police Department. Reports indicate that three vehicles were involved or present at the scene: a black Volkswagen SUV, a maroon Dodge Challenger, and the New Horizons van. At least one vehicle was struck by gunfire.
Following the incident, the suspected shooter reportedly turned himself in at the Amherst Police Department. He is currently in custody. No names have been released at this time, and no charges have been announced.
