The election followed a student-led town hall at Lorain High School on October 7, where all four candidates shared their goals for district improvement and answered questions from students and residents on academics, safety, and fiscal responsibility.
Mark Anthony Ballard II
A Lorain High graduate, Ballard went on to earn degrees in economics and law before returning home to work as a paraprofessional and urban farmer. His campaign focused on mentorship, career readiness, and building stronger pathways between education and employment. Ballard’s father, Mark Ballard Sr., currently serves on the board.
Diamaris Rosario
A licensed social worker and former district employee, Rosario brings experience in early childhood education, behavioral health, and community engagement. She emphasized transparency, parental involvement, and continuing progress in student achievement throughout her campaign.
Bill Sturgill
With over sixteen years on the board, Sturgill is one of Lorain’s most experienced education leaders. A lifelong resident and 1968 Lorain High graduate, he is known for his focus on accountability, long-term stability, and responsible financial management.
Moving Forward
During the town hall, all four candidates highlighted the importance of collaboration and open communication with families. They also voiced support for expanding vocational opportunities, improving special education services, and maintaining fiscal responsibility within the district.
The newly elected board members will join Lorain City Schools in shaping district policy and operations for the coming term.
