Traffic Stop at Elyria Shell Station Leads to Cocaine Arrest

Elyria Police arrested 36-year-old Joshua Joyner early Saturday morning after finding suspected crack cocaine and a glass smoking device during a traffic stop near the Shell gas station at Bell Avenue and State Route 57.

According to the police report, officers recognized the vehicle’s driver from a prior incident in which he had reportedly fled from police about two weeks earlier. Officers initiated the stop at approximately 3:47 a.m. on November 22. Police say Joyner exited the vehicle and told officers he was on probation out of Florida for a burglary case.

Officers reported finding a glass smoking device and a small baggie containing a white rock-like substance near where Joyner had been standing. The substance field-tested positive for cocaine, according to the report. Police documented two pieces of evidence: .6 grams of suspected cocaine found in a baggie and a glass smoking device.

Joyner was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance under ORC 2925.11 (F5) and possession of drug paraphernalia (M4). He was transported to the Lorain County Jail and is being held with no bond pending a court appearance.

Court records list two cash or surety bonds: one for $250 and another for $2,500. He has hearings scheduled in Elyria Municipal Court on November 24 at 9 a.m. and November 25 at 1 p.m. The felony possession charge is recorded as a fifth-degree felony.

All charges are allegations until proven in court.
