Elderly Woman Dies Following Lorain House Fire

LORAIN — An elderly woman died after a house fire reported Wednesday afternoon in Lorain, according to Lorain Professional Firefighters Local 267.

Fire crews were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire with an occupant trapped inside. Upon arrival, suppression crews quickly extinguished the fire while simultaneously removing the woman from the home.

Lorain Fire Department crews immediately began life-saving measures while awaiting the arrival of LifeCare ambulance services. Despite those efforts, the homeowner later succumbed to her injuries.

As is standard procedure in any fatal fire, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist with the investigation. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Fire officials reminded residents that working smoke detectors save lives and stressed the importance of exiting the home immediately and staying out if a fire is discovered.
