Elyria police investigate Wednesday-night shooting on Jackson Avenue

ELYRIA — Elyria police are investigating a shooting reported late Wednesday night in the 200 block of Jackson Avenue, according to a press release issued Thursday.

Police said officers were dispatched to the area at about 10:23 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a male who had been shot. The suspect was reported to have fled the scene before officers arrived.

Officers Laurendeau and Eggleston were the first on scene and located the male victim inside a residence, police said. The victim was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Lifecare Ambulance and the Elyria Fire Department responded and provided medical treatment at the scene before the victim was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for further care.

As additional officers arrived, police said they canvassed the area for evidence and conducted interviews. The Elyria Police Detective Bureau responded and has taken over the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.

“We are working diligently to identify those involved and determine the circumstances surrounding this shooting,” said Capt. Bill Lantz.
