Elyria Police Arrest Two in Connection With Multiple Target Thefts

ELYRIA — Two individuals were arrested Wednesday after Elyria police say an investigation into a reported theft at Target led to the discovery of multiple alleged theft incidents tied to the same suspects.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched around 1:14 p.m. on April 8 to Target, located at 240 Market Drive, for a theft complaint. Dispatch advised that a male suspect had fled the store on foot shortly before officers arrived.

Officers located two individuals matching the description nearby on Bell Avenue and made contact with them. Police identified the suspects as Anthony Archino and Christina Cortimilla. Both admitted to being inside the store moments earlier, according to the report.

While on scene, officers learned that Cortimilla had an active warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and she was taken into custody.

Police then met with Target loss prevention and reviewed store surveillance footage. According to the report, video showed Archino taking a pair of jeans valued at $45.99 without paying. Footage also showed Cortimilla allegedly taking a pair of shoes valued at $34.99, putting them on, and leaving the store without payment.

Further review of surveillance footage appeared to show Archino taking additional clothing items in a separate incident, totaling approximately $97, though the report does not specify when that incident occurred.

Based on the investigation, officers filed theft charges against both individuals. Archino was charged with two counts of theft, while Cortimilla was charged with one count of theft in addition to her active warrant.

Both suspects were transported to the Lorain County Jail, where they were held pending bond or arraignment.

Police also noted that additional items found in Archino’s backpack were investigated but determined not to be stolen from Target.

The incident was captured on officers’ body-worn cameras, according to the report.
